The first teaser trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is here to remind everyone that Beast Wars has always been the superior portion of the broader Transformers franchise, even after years of Paramount's live-action Transformers movies seeming like they were coasting on their fantastic looks.
Director Steven Caple Jr.'s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts centers on museum researcher Elena (Dominique Fishback) and ex-military gearhead Noah (Anthony Ramos), two humans who unintentionally get caught up in yet another battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.
Noah and Elena are unaware of Cybertronians like Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen), who are secretly lurking on Earth in a variety of everyday human cars, as has been the trend in recent Transformers stories. But in contrast to earlier Transformers movies, Rise of the Beasts will feature a number of Maximals and Predacons or Transformers with alternate forms modeled like organic animals. Although the idea of Cybertronians evolving into organic creatures has been mentioned in subsequent Transformers films from Paramount, Optimus seems downright astonished to encounter Optimus Primal (Ron Perlman) in his gorilla form.
It's unclear from the teaser whether Rise of the Beasts will elaborate on the plot of Beast Wars, which details how the Maximals and Predacons—who are truly from the distant future—accidentally traveled back in time and ended up in the Paleolithic Era. The fact that iconic figures like Airazor (Michelle Yeoh), Cheetor, and Rhinox will be involved as Prime and his allies attempt to once more save the Earth from catastrophe, however, is made startlingly plain.
Tobe Nwigwe, Peter Dinklage, Liza Koshy, John DiMaggio, David Sobolov, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Pete Davidson, and Cristo Fernández also appear in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. On June 9th, 2023, the film opens in theaters.
