Regulators have continued a years-long campaign to restrict the access of Chinese telecom companies to US networks by prohibiting Huawei Technologies Co. and ZTE Corp. from selling devices in the US. They claim the companies constitute a security risk.
In a decision issued on Friday, the Federal Communications Commission also mentioned two other companies: two-way radio manufacturer Hytera Communications Corp. and linked camera manufacturers Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co. and Dahua Technology Co.
In a press release, FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel stated, "The FCC is dedicated to preserving our national security by ensuring that unreliable communications equipment is not permitted for use within our borders, and we are continuing that work here." These new regulations are a crucial component of our ongoing efforts to safeguard the American people from risks to national security involving telecommunications.
