Twitter for iOS has been updated to include a new $8/month Twitter Blue subscription for verification.

Twitter has officially launched its new Twitter Blue subscription service, which provides "blue check" verification to all users for $8 per month. The new subscription is now available through the most recent version of the Twitter for iOS app; here's what it means and what's still "coming soon."

Here are the full release notes for today’s Twitter for iOS update:

Starting today, we’re adding great new features to Twitter Blue, and have more on the way soon. Get Twitter Blue for $7.99/month if you sign up now

  • Blue checkmark: Power to the people: Your account will get a blue checkmark, just like the celebrities, companies, and politicians you already follow.

Coming soon…

  • Half the ads & much better ones: Since you’re supporting Twitter in the battle against the bots, we’re going to reward you with half the ads and make them twice as relevant.
  • Post longer videos: You’ll finally be able to post longer videos to Twitter.
  • Priority ranking for quality content: Your content will get priority ranking in replies, mentions and searches. This helps lower the visibility of scams, spam, and bots.
  • Availability: Twitter Blue with verification is currently available on iOS in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

This represents a significant expansion of Twitter's previously limited verification program. Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, has relied heavily on the "blue check" to increase the number of Twitter Blue subscribers and increase the company's revenue. Of course, there are some issues with providing verification to everyone.

Twitter has also removed all previous verification infrastructure, including the previously required application process, with today's update. The dedicated "Verified" feed is now the default in the "Notifications" tab, and you must swipe over to see notifications from nonverified accounts.

Some server-side features of the new Twitter Blue subscription appear to be still in the works. As a result, you may experience some delays or error messages as Twitter continues to make changes behind the scenes.

Twitter Blue subscriptions are paid through Apple's in-app payment platform, which means Twitter shares 30% of its revenue with Apple. You can manage your Twitter Blue subscription through the iPhone's Settings app or the App Store.

Are you willing to pay $8 per month for the verified blue check? What about the other new Twitter Blue features that will be available soon? Please let us know in the comments.
