Apple is planning to launch a new HomePod in late 2022 or early 2023.

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on an upgraded version of the HomePod that could debut in the fourth quarter of 2022 or the first quarter of 2023.

For the next HomePod, according to Kuo, "there may not be much innovation in hardware design," and it is unknown what size the gadget will be or whether it will be a larger speaker or the HomePod mini's replacement.

It's probable that the speaker Kuo is referring to is the new HomePod that Apple is considering developing that would be midway between the original HomePod and the HomePod small. This information was originally provided by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

A speaker like this might take the place of the HomePod, which has been discontinued. It would cost more than the HomePod tiny but less than the larger HomePod.

Additionally, according to Gurman, Apple is developing speakers with screens and cameras to compete with gadgets like the Google Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Show, but these products are not anticipated to be released anytime soon. Apple is also testing versions of the Apple TV that are coupled with a HomePod and is investigating a device that is an iPad connected to a HomePod via a robotic arm so that the camera can follow a user around the room.
