Facebook's response to Zoom and Houseparty for the pandemic is Messenger Rooms.

Facebook is releasing a number of new tools to increase its video chat functionality. Today, the business unveiled Messenger Rooms, a feature that lets you start online hangouts with up to 50 people and invite pals to join you whenever you choose. Additionally, Facebook Dating will now support video calls, WhatsApp's video call capacity will increase from four to eight people, and new live-streaming capabilities will be added to both Facebook and Instagram.

Today's live-streamed announcement by CEO Mark Zuckerberg included the features. The new video features, according to Zuckerberg in an interview with The Verge, were developed in keeping with the company's push toward building more private messaging tools.

The decisions were made at a time when the global pandemic has caused hundreds of millions of people to stay indoors and rely almost exclusively on digital technologies for job, school, and recreation. Calls are currently placed daily on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp by more than 700 million users.
